How to change C:\Users\ original user name to the new user name and user folder name《2/2》

If you restarted your computer, you will be logging in to your standard account with a new username(here,BestFriend).

Problems logging in

▼ When Signing in, Here is a different display on the screen, unfamiliar display as follows. Usually, when logging in, it will go to the desktop immediately. But, the mesage, Preparing Windows will be displayed and the state of waiting is somewhat persistent for a while.

▼ You will be logged in soon, but the following message will be displayed on your desktop: We can’t sign in to your account.

This problem can often be fixed by signing our of your account and then signing back in. If you don’t sign out now, any files you create or changes you make will be lost.

You will see a message: once you sign out and back in, but the results will not change.

This is because in the Registry Editor, as previously described, the old user name remains in the user folder, with only a partial rename from the old user name to the new user name.

As a result, We’ve encountered account mismatches, and we’re having trouble signing in.

Click the Signout button.

Renaming user folders in Windows Explorer

Let’s change the name of the user folder of the standard user who remains as the old user name. First, sign in with a user account with administrator.

You move to “C:\Users” folder below. Right-click on the 1user folder to be changed and click 2Rename>. Alternatively, click on the file name once again to switch to the rename mode.

▼ It has been replaced with the new user name folder name[here, BestFriend] as follows:.

Change all old user names to new user names in the registry editor

Run the Registry Editor and find all the “username before change” (here, C:\Users\Friend) and rename it to the new username.

▼ Select 1“Computer” and press Ctrl + F key to open the search box. In the search field,entering 2“C:\Users\Friend” and click 3Find Next button to start searching.

▼ The search starts with “Searching the registry…“.

▼ If a registry matching the search keyword is found, double-click the 1value. In Value Data, change “User name before change” to the 2new user name (BestFriend). Click 3OK button.

Continue by clicking the ▼ F3 key for the next search. Repeating the above search method, and changing to the new user name continues until it is finished

Signing-in again with the changed user name, you should be able to log in usually.
