Windows 10 downloads and installs the update automatically for Windows work such as important security enhancements and bug fix updates. The default settings for Windows Update are automatically downloaded and installed.
This automatic Windows Update is actually convenient for users, but not everyone wants. We can not completely prevent Windows Updating from Microsoft, but we have two ways to disable automatic updates using the Group Policy editor and Registry Editor.
In addition, you can disable automatic updating by using the Local Group Policy Editor(gpedit.msc).But it is only valid for Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise Edition.
How to Disable Automatic Updates: Registry Editor
▼ As below, presskey to open Run, and enter 1regedit in the text box. Click 2 button.
▼ Navigate to the following path in the Registry Editor.
▼ Because there is no key related to Windows Update, you create a new key. Right-click on Windows key, and click 1New > Key.
▼ Rename New key #1 to 1 WindowsUpdate.
▼ We create another subkey of WindowsUpdate again. Right-click on WindowsUpdate key, and click 1New > Key.
▼ Rename New key #1 to 1AU key.
▼ Selecting AU key, right-click in the blank area on the right pane and click 1New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
▼ Rename New Value # 1 to 1NoAutoUpdate.
▼ Double-click 1NoAutoUpdate value and type 21 in the text box of Value data on the Edit DWORD(32-bits) Value window.
0: Enable Automatic Updates.
1: Disable Automatic Updates.
After entering, click on 3button.
▼ As a result, Windows automatic update is now invalidated.
Disable Automatic Updates using Services
▼ Alternatively, you can disable Windows Update by using Services in the Windows Administrative Tools. Presskey to open Run and entering 1services.msc, click 2 button.
▼ Click 1Windows Update on the right pane of Services.
Enables the detection, download, and installation of updates for Windows and other programs.
If this service is disabled, users of this computer will not be able to use Windows Update or its automatic updating feature, and programs will not be able to use the Windows Update Agent (WUA) API.
▼ On 1General tab in the Windows Update Properties (Local Computer) window, there are four startup types such as Automatic(delayed start), Automatic, Manual, Disabled.
Choose 2Disabled Among them, and click 3button.
