In Windows 10, Windows download and install software updates automatically for Windows work such as important security enhancements and bug fix updates. The default settings for Windows Update are automatically downloaded and installed.
This Windows Update checks the status of your computer and, for example, identifies Windows services or devices installed on your PC, and creates and displays a list of hotfixes that have not yet been applied to your PC.
For security reasons, it’s a good idea to have the latest patches and fixes installed on Windows. You select the patch to install from the list and install it. In general, we can not forcefully prevent Windows Updating, but we will set how to disable Windows Update on Windows 10 using the following methods.
Windows Update settings
You can set up the following limited Windows Update. Click > Settings > 1Update & Security.

Update settings
▼ Automatic update: Usually set to default. If nothing is set, Windows Update will automatically proceed and force the update.
Pause updates：Set setting toggle button to 1 ON, you can temporarily suspend the installation of Windows updates for up to 35 days.
Windows will now tell you when to restart and when the date and time you set will not be restarted at will. However, this degree is the maximum range that you can set.
▼ Then, On the update screen, it will display the message as follows, 1You have paused updates for this device. For more info on when updates will resume, select Advanced options.
How to Disable Automatic Updates
There are several ways to disable Windows Update. First of all, it is well known how to use Group Policy Editor(gpedit.smc).
Using Group Policy Editor
Group Policy is the essential way that run settings on your computer. Group Policy is a useful tool for running various settings such as registry, security, software installation, login, and Internet Explorer for the objects.
However, Windows 10 Home edition can not be used by default because the local Group Policy Editor(gpedit.msc) is not installed. It is only installed on Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise Edition.
▼ As below, press key to open Run, and enter 1gpedit.msc in the text box. Click 2button.

▼ In the Local Group Policy Editor, navigate to the following path.
Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update
▼ Double-click 1Configure Automatic Updates item on the right side.
▼ In the Configure Automatic Updates window, when you click 1Enabled, you can determine one of 4 update options in the 2Configure Automatic Updating section, and choose install time.

2. Notify for download and notify for install This option notifies a logged-on administrative user prior to the download and prior to the installation of the updates.
3. Auto download and notify for install This option automatically begins downloading updates and then notifies a logged-on administrative user prior to installing the updates.
4. Auto download and schedule the install If Automatic Updates is configured to perform a scheduled installation, you must also set the day and time for the recurring scheduled installation.
5. Allow local admin to choose setting With this option, the local administrators are allowed to use Automatic Updates in Control Panel to select a configuration option of their choice. For example, they can choose their own scheduled installation time. Local administrators are not allowed to disable Automatic Updates.

Windows Update Settings
▼ After you set “Disabled” in the group policy editor above, it does not seem to have changed in particular at first sight even if you press once on the Windows Update pane.
However, if you restart or log out and then log back in, some settings on the “Windows Update” pane will display the message, 1Some settings are managed by your orgabization.

Also you can see the same 1message in the Advanced Options. 2Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows item has been grayed and disabled.

Restore default
If you restore to the default setting, choose Not Configured in the “Local Group Policy Editor” again, and then restart or log out and log back in again. Then the message, “Some settings are managed by your orgabization” above will disappear.
If it does not disappear, click on button once in the Windows Update pane, the message will disappear as the window is updated. The advanced options message will also disappear and return to its default state.
