Windows File Explorer is an essential tool for working with files and folders. Not only that, but also access to the FTP server is possible without a third-party FTP program.
▼ Usually, an FTP server is a file transfer-specific application that is used to build a website. You can download and install the free FTP software. To access the FTP server,Host Address, Username, Password are required by default .
On Windows10, FTP connection is possible with Windows File Explorer alone without installing a FTP application.
Accessing the FTP server
▼ Accessing the FTP server with Windows File Explorer is very simple. Just type the address of the FTP server you want to connect, for example, 1“ftp://184.108.40.206” in the address bar as follows, and presskey.
Enter username and password
▼ If the Connection to FTP server is successful, the following logon screen is displayed, requesting1“User name” and2“Password” input. After entering each, click the4button.
▼ If you check 3“Save password“, Logging-on again can connect to an FTP server without any input.
▼ It is displayed in the same image as 1folder(directory) of local Hard-disk.
Pin to Quick access
Frequently used folders can be fixed to “Quick access“, FTP server is also available.
▼ First, with the FTP server starting, right-click Quick access, and then click 1Pin current folder to Quick access.
▼ As a result, 1FTP server has been added under Quick access as follows. From now on, simply you can click on the FTP server and just enter the password for easy access.
On right-hand menu above, by clicking 2Pin to Start, then it is displayed on the Start screen as below.
If you want Unpin, right-click Quick access and click 1Unpin from Start.
Upload a file to an FTP server
Just like copying, pasting, and moving files or folders to your local hard disk drive(HDD) or folder in the File Explorer, you can connect to FTP and upload or download files to the FTP server in exactly the same way.
▼ Uploading or downloading files to(from) an FTP server is like a “copy” or “paste” of files(folders) in the File Explorer. In the following cases, the image file is being uploaded to the FTP server from a Local Disk(HDD).
“Copy” and “Delete” files
▼ Like a folder and file on File Explorer in your local disk, and you can also right-click the file or folder, and click 1Copy, 2Delete on FTP server.
Is it not possible to Unpi FTP Server link in Quick access?
▼ A folder shortcut Pinned to the Quick access on File Explorer is easily unpinned in the following ways. Simply right-click the folder and then click 1Unpin from Quick access.
▼ Howerever, in case of FTP server link, it remains stuck and can’t be removed or unpinned in the same way as above. There is only 1Expand option that disabled in the right menu as below.
The FTP server link can not be unpin by itself. In this case, we need multi-select shortcuts to be unpinned
On 1Frequent folders in the right pane, first, select the 2FTP link and holding downand select 3another shortcut to be unpinned, for example, directory shortcut of FTP server.
Right-click and click 4Remove from Quick access. Then, FTP server link is removed or unpinned from Quick access easily.
