How to open Device Manager to PC manage in Windows 10

Device Manager is a tool that displays connection status of PC and peripheral devices such as CPU, hard disk, graphic card, sound card, mouse, etc., and manages adding, deleting, and change of driver.

Make sure your device is recognized and working properly on your computer.

For example, if you experience problems such as no sound, no display screen, or the like, update the device with the latest driver to support normal operation of the PC.

Run as Administrator

To change device settings such as adding, deleting, or installing a driver, you must be logged in as an administrator. When accessing Device Manager with a standard user account, the following message is displayed.

You are prompted to change the device configuration as the Administrator account.

You are logged on as a standard user. You can view device settings in Device Manager, but you must be logged on as an administrator to make changes.

If you change the device, you need to enter the password of administrator account as below.

▼ The Device Manager displays the list of devices under 1Computer Name” as below.

There are several ways to run “Device Manager”.

Context Menu

▼ Right-click on Start button, and click 1Device Manager as below.

Run

▼ Pressing Windows + R keys, enter the command, 1mmc devmgmt.msc to run Run. Click 2OK button.

Control Panel

▼ As below, press Windows + R key to open Run, and enter 1control or C:\Windows\System32\control.exe in the text box. Click 2OKbutton.

After Windows 10 Creators Update(version 1703), Control panel item disappeared from the right click menu of Start Button. You can check how to start the control panel from the following link.

Running in “Computer Management”

▼ Right-click on Start button and click 1Computer Management.

▼ You must also log in as an Administrator.

For standard user accounts, the above “User Account Control” message is displayed requesting the password for the administrator account..

In the navigation pane, click 1System Tools > Device Manager to display detailed device information on the right-hand side.

Open “My PC” on the desktop

▼ Right-click “This PC” on the desktop and click 1Properties” in Context Menu list.
