There are two types of Windows, 32-bit and 64-bit operating Windows. The difference between Windows 32-bit and 64-bit is, in short, the difference in processing speed.
32-bit and 64-bit refers to how the information is processed by the processor(CPU), the brain of the computer. The 64-bit version of Windows is more efficient than the 32-bit system.
In the past, the 64-bit version had problems with some software and devices (driver), and the 32-bit version was the mainstream. However, since most software now supports the 64-bit version, 64-bit versions of Windows are popular.
“Bit” is an abbreviation of “binary digit“, and the computer’s storage device converts all signals to “binary number” and stores them as “0” and “1” in “binary”. The minimum unit is called “bit”.
“1” indicates a high-voltage digital signal of electricity flowing through the circuit, and “0” indicates 0 V(volt). 1bit represents two kinds of “0” and “1”. For example, it indicates ON or OFF. In 2bit, it shows information of “00”, “01”, “10”, “11” kinds.
The n bits can represent information up to 2n. Every time you increase 1 bit, the amount of information also doubles.
The maximum memory capacity that can be recognized and used by 32-bit operating Windows is 4GB (actually 3.2GB), but 64-bit Windows can recognize more than 4GB of memory, so it can recognize up to 128GB of memory.
By changing to 64-bit OS and expanding the physical memory, it becomes possible to handle large amount of data, which makes comfortable computer work possible.
Is 32-bit enough for Windows?
In the current flow, there is much reason to buy a 32-bit version of Windows. If a simple office work or Internet, you can use it without problems.
If you are using older PCs or old peripherals, or if your hard disk drive has a small capacity, 32-bit operating Windows are better than 64-bit operating Windows. The point is that the lower specification PC can be used only with 32-bit operating Windows.
64-bit operating Windows may be advantageous
Compared to the past, the software for Windows has become multifunctional, and the size of the file has been getting bigger. In order to work without any problems, the computer needs to be loaded with a large amount of memory. There is no change in the trend of increasing use of 64-bit operating Windows in the future.
As mentioned above, compared to the 32-bit, 64-bit Windows is fast in software startup time, software execution speed, 3D graphics rendering, and is advantageous for processing 3D CG software, game, and high-definition HD video editing.
The 64-bit operating Windows requires the corresponding CPU to install it, but the 64-bit operating system(OS) is most apparent when a large amount of random access memory(RAM) is installed in the computer.
In addition, the 64-bit system can process more memory than 32-bit, making it suitable for multitasking (running multiple programs at the same time or switching programs).
Most 32-bit of software can be used with 64-bit operating Windows, but 64-bit of software will cause problems when used with 32-bit operating Windows.
your PC is 32-bit? 64-bit?
You can easily check it in the following way.
▼ 1Right-click on, click 2system.
Or, go to> Windows Settings > System：About.
▼ The System window is displayed. You can check the “System type” in the “About” tab. In the following cases, 1“64-bit operating system, x64-based processor” is marked.
This means that a 64-bit version of Windows and a 64-bit-based CPU suitable for it are installed.
▼ You can check from “This PC” as follows. Click 1“This PC“, and then right-clicking in the right-hand side of the empty space, click 2Properties on the menu.
▼ As a result, you can check the System type by going to the “System” in Control Panel.
