[Windows10] How to Create and rebuild index used for quick search of files in Windows File Explorer

If you can not find the search results of a file or folder in Windows Explorer, or if you can not find a file or folder, you can speed up file searching by deleting the current index, rewriting it to the latest state, and updating the list.

An index is a function that enables quick search of a file by indexing file information in advance.

Index creation and rebuilding can take a significant amount of time to complete. In addition, the PC may be slowed down because it is under load in the process.

Open from Control Panel

To prevent an automatic reboot of the PC when a system error occurs, set it in the Control Panel.



▼ As below, press Windows + R key to open Run, and enter1control or C:\Windows\System32\control.exe in the text box. Click2OKbutton.

Creating the index

▼ In the Control Panel window, select 1View by: Large(Small) icon, and then click 2Indexing Options.

▼ The index that was created in the past is displayed. Click 1Advanced

▼ The Advanced options window is displayed. On the “Index Settings” tab , click Rebuild button.

▼ The message, Rebuilding the index might take a long time to complete. Some views and search results might be incomplete until rebuilding is finished. is displayed. Click OK button.

▼  Returning to “Index Options” and index creation starts. Depending on the number of files to be indexed, it will take some time to complete the rebuild.

The message, 1Indexing in progress. Search results might not be complete during this time. is displayed.

▼ When the indexing is complete, The message,”Indexing complete” is displayed. Click 2Close button.
